Brian May is an astrophysicist, singer, songwriter, and the lead guitarist of the legendary rock band QUEEN. May received his PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College London and was Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University from 2008 to 2013. He was a collaborator on NASA’s New Horizons mission to Pluto and has an asteroid named after him (52665 Brianmay). He is also a champion of animal rights, campaigning against the hunting of foxes and the culling of badgers in the United Kingdom. As a teenager, he famously built his own guitar (known as the Red Special) using mainly household items. In 2001, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of QUEEN and in 2018 the band received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
